The hike to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) is a unique experience for trekking and Inca history lovers. This stunning natural viewpoint, located above the archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo, offers privileged views of the Sacred Valley, the glaciers of Mount Veronica, and the surrounding ancient ruins.
Unlike the more famous Inti Punku at Machu Picchu, this lesser-known version is completely free from mass tourism, allowing for a peaceful hike surrounded by Andean landscapes, original Inca trails, and an indescribable ancestral energy. It’s the perfect choice for those seeking a one-day hike with both cultural and scenic value.
📅 Itinerary
We’ll pick you up from your accommodation in Ollantaytambo around 7:00 a.m. and start the hike right from the town. The trail begins with a gentle ascent along agricultural paths until reaching an ancient section of the Qhapaq Ñan (Inca Trail), where the steady uphill climb begins.
Along the way, you’ll pass by Inca terraces, highland vegetation, and natural viewpoints offering spectacular sights of Mount Veronica and the Urubamba River. After approximately 3 hours of hiking, we’ll arrive at Inti Punku, an ancient ceremonial gateway that once marked the entrance of the sun into the valley. Here, you’ll have time to rest, take photos, and enjoy a snack with an unbeatable view.
After the visit, we’ll begin our descent along the same path, with an estimated return to Ollantaytambo around 3:00 p.m., where the tour concludes.
