Enjoy a relaxing and authentic horseback ride in Ollantaytambo, an ideal experience to connect with nature and the living history of the Sacred Valley. Riding a Peruvian Creole Andean horse, you will travel along ancient Inca trails, agricultural terraces, natural viewpoints, and traditional communities, with stunning panoramic views of the surroundings.
This activity is perfect for all types of travelers, as no prior horseback riding experience is required. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll get to know Quechua culture up close, admire the valley’s landscapes, and appreciate the unique beauty of Ollantaytambo—home to significant archaeological remains and centuries-old traditions.
The tour begins with pick-up from your accommodation in Ollantaytambo at 8:30 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. (depending on the chosen schedule). We’ll head to the meeting point with the horses in a nearby rural area, where you’ll receive a brief introduction on horse handling, safety measures, and equipment use.
We’ll start our ride along ancient Inca roads and natural trails, passing by crop fields, pre-Hispanic irrigation channels, and Quechua communities. The route includes stops at scenic viewpoints where you can admire Mount Veronica, the Urubamba River, and the archaeological formations surrounding Ollantaytambo.
Throughout the journey, the guide will share insights into the area’s history, Andean worldview, and local customs. After approximately 2.5 to 3 hours of riding, we’ll return to the starting point and take you back to your accommodation.
