Located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Ollantaytambo is one of the most captivating and best-preserved examples of Inca heritage. Its imposing archaeological complex was the site of the only major Inca victory over the Spanish forces, while its cobblestone streets and canal systems still function just as they did over 500 years ago.
On this walk, you’ll explore both the ruins and the living town, visiting temples, agricultural terraces, colcas (storehouses), strategic viewpoints, and narrow alleyways where daily life flows in a setting that blends history and tradition. Perfect for those seeking an intimate encounter with Andean culture without traveling far, this experience offers a living window into the past that continues to thrive today.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo at 9:00 a.m. and begin the walk to the Ollantaytambo archaeological complex. We’ll explore the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of Water, and the impressive terraces once used for defense and cultivation. Your guide will share the stories of the battles fought here and explain the significance of each sector.
We’ll then descend to the living Inca town, strolling through its narrow streets flanked by original stone walls and crystal-clear water canals that still supply local homes. You’ll have the chance to observe daily life and traditions such as weaving, farming, and local market trading.
Finally, we’ll visit a natural viewpoint with panoramic views of the valley, the Urubamba River, and the surrounding mountains. The tour concludes around 12:30 p.m. with the return to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.
