Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – 2 Days / 1 Night

📌 Summary description of the tour

The 2-day Short Inca Trail is the perfect option for travelers who want to experience part of the legendary original Inca Trail without committing to a multi-day trek. This route blends nature, history, and adventure, covering the last stretch of the trail that leads directly to Machu Picchu through the famous Sun Gate (Inti Punku).

On the first day, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable hike past archaeological sites like Wiñay Wayna, surrounded by lush cloud forest and stunning views, arriving at Machu Picchu at sunset. The second day is dedicated entirely to exploring the citadel with a guided tour. This is the ideal alternative for those with limited time who still want to feel the magic of walking along part of the ancient Qhapaq Ñan.

🗓️ Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Inti Punku – Aguas Calientes
Early in the morning (around 4:00 a.m.), we’ll pick you up from your hotel and transfer you by tourist transport to the train station in Ollantaytambo. From there, we take the train to Km 104, the starting point of the trek.

We begin by visiting the archaeological site of Chachabamba, then gradually ascend along a path surrounded by subtropical vegetation until reaching Wiñay Wayna, an impressive complex of terraces and Inca constructions.

After enjoying a box lunch, we continue hiking to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you’ll have your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu. We then descend to the main entrance and take the bus to Aguas Calientes, where we’ll spend the night in a tourist hotel. Dinner included.

🗓️ Day 2: Machu Picchu – Cusco
Very early in the morning, after breakfast, we take the bus to Machu Picchu to enter before the crowds. You’ll enjoy a 2-hour guided tour through the main sectors of the sanctuary, including the Sacred Plaza, the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, and other highlights.

After the guided visit, you’ll have free time to explore on your own (following the official entry circuit rules). We then take the bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. Finally, we return by vehicle to Cusco, arriving at night.
