High in the Sacred Valley, just a few kilometers from Ollantaytambo, lies the community of Willoq—renowned for preserving the traditions, language, and clothing of their Inca ancestors. This immersive journey invites you to spend a full day with local villagers, learning firsthand about their customs, weaving techniques, cuisine, and farming practices.
It’s an authentic cultural experience that blends living history, nature, and warm Andean hospitality. Perfect for travelers seeking responsible and enriching tourism, far from conventional routes.
The tour begins with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:30 a.m. or from Ollantaytambo at 8:00 a.m. (depending on your starting point). From Cusco, we’ll travel by road through the Sacred Valley, enjoying Andean landscapes and small villages until we reach Ollantaytambo, where we’ll join the group.
From Ollantaytambo, we’ll continue in private transport to the Willoq community (approx. 40 minutes). Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a traditional greeting, including music, dances, and a brief introduction to the community’s history.
We’ll then take a guided walk through the village, discovering its stone houses, thatched roofs, and the symbolism behind their vibrant clothing. You’ll participate in a traditional Andean weaving workshop, learning to spin and dye wool with natural pigments.
Next, we’ll join a traditional agricultural activity (depending on the season), such as planting, harvesting, or crop care. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a typical lunch prepared by local families, made with organic products grown in the area.
In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to interact with families, purchase handicrafts directly from the artisans, and take photographs of the stunning surrounding landscapes. We’ll conclude the visit around 3:30 p.m. and return to Ollantaytambo or Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:30 p.m.
